#BellLetsTalk – Jan 25, 2017

If you are a fan of Grey’s Anatomy you are familiar with the lead character Meredith Grey. I know this is a TV show but the people writing for her are real. Her situations, albeit extreme for most, are real. She has battled mental illness her whole life.

She refers to her closest friends when she is worried about going into her dark and twisty place. I am sure even if you have never watched one hour of the show you can understand about the feelings of being in a dark and twisty place. I know I have.

In the past month or so, more than one person in my life has either called, emailed or texted apologizing for not being around. Not calling. All of them have said the same thing, I am just in my own space right now. Not really in the mood to talk to other people. Not in the mood for socializing. I get it. I am there as well.

I told all of them that I get it. I have been there as well. In December I like to blame it on the end of the year. Mental health issues are high all the time, but the holidays and the end of year is an increased time for many. For some, getting out and being very social is the answer for them. For others it is the opposite. There are only so many times you can answer the same questions or even want to answer the questions.

With the darkness does come the light. It sounds trite but you have to keep saying that to get you through. I woke up the other morning around 7 and it was already getting light. That is a win for me, it means that the days are getting longer and that light is coming.

The concept of #BellLetsTalk day is a special one. It isn’t just one day. We need to be aware of the people around us and those who may be in their own dark and twisty place, as well as our own dark and twisty place. We all go there. Some more than others and some for longer than others. We can’t just snap out of it. It is not that easy. There are medical reasons why we can’t, external reasons why we can’t or maybe we just aren’t ready.

I encourage you to send a message, call, text, whatever your mode of communication to at least one person today that you haven’t spoken to in a while. I just called to say hello and that I am thinking about you. One call to one person. If we all did that, imagine how many people we can reach today.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for coming on my journey with me. I appreciate it.

Live your best life,

Lisa

January TV viewing….

It is almost that time…no….not New Years Eve. It is almost time when the main stream shows return from their “winter break”. In November, they used to call it “sweeps”…now all the shows had a fall finale and took a break into the new year.

I will tell you that I don’t have netflicks. I have not watched – wait for it – Breaking Bad, Orange is the new Black, House of cards, and sadly, The Newsroom. I know, I know, I should give in and pay the $8 bucks a month and start to binge watch over these cold winter nights we have coming up. Maybe I will. Jury is still out on that.

I also do NOT, will NOT, refuse to watch the batchelor/ette shows. I won’t judge you if you do, because I have been known to watch a few train wrecks from time to time (cough, cough Kardashians, Real Housewives).

I will be watching the following shows:

Parenthood – starts it final four episodes on January 8th. I will be sad. It was a good show. The Braverman’s are a tv family, but they could be any family.

The Good Wife – starts up again on January 4th. It has been a strange year and does Cary go to jail, or sign the deal with the drug lord, double dealing Lamond Bishop. I guess tune in and see.

Grey’s Anatomy – January 29th – later than others, because this show has jumped the shark, but I will watch until the end I suppose. I have given it 11 years….McDreamy’s contract is up at the end of the year, so maybe he really does leave this time…or not…..

Saving Hope – January 7th – because I have my US Med drama with Grey’s so this is my Canadian content fix. The cast is good. I like the concept, and would like to see what happens to Charlie and Alex.

Glee – again…another show that is past its time, and they know it, so they are coming back to finish it up – starting January 9th.

American Idol – not because I like the show, but because I like the judges. I may only last through the auditions and the Hollywood round. Time will tell. That starts Jan 7th. I really only watched one full season – the year that Phillip Phillips won.

Celebrity Apprentice – not because I like Donald Trump – I used to, but he annoys me. I think the cast looks good. You’ve got reality tv whores Kate Gosselin up against Brandi Glanville, Geraldo Riviera, Vivica A Fox, and Ian Zeiring (Steve Sanders)….I will check this one out – starting January 4th.

If you ever caught an episode of Who do you think you are, it is coming back on TLC in February and I love it.

And I do love my Wahlburger boys – season 3 starts January 7th. Not really into the Jenny and Donny show, but the original, yes.

And I love Bill and Giulana Rancic, I wish I knew where their show was coming back.

Whatever you watch, I hope you enjoy it.
