2019 Fall TV Season – week one update

For those who follow me on FB or read this blog on a regular basis you would have seen my fall preview post a couple of weeks ago. For those who haven’t read it you can read it by clicking here.

One full week of the 2019 TV season is now in the books, or well…listed on my PVR to watch.

I am going to be honest with you, I think I recorded 43 shows last week, which I will never watch. I usually do this every new season. I will have my regular shows and then I will add a whole bunch of new shows that I think I may like. I usually give those shows a two episode chance. Like a blind or first date, you can’t always rely on the first one to show you the good or the bad.

I did manage to get in all my regular shows and with the exception of This is Us, felt the opening episodes did really well. All three Chicago shows had lead character exists coming that I knew about, actually except for Chicago Fire. That was a surprise, but I am not going to go into more detail here since I don’t like being a spoiler to those who may not have watched…however…if you are on social media five minutes after any show airs, the media outlets are the first to spoil, so I may not worry about that moving forward.

I am going to discuss This is Us for a minute since episode two is about to start and I am still uncomfortable about episode one.

I am a big fan of the “big three” and enjoy the jumps forward and backwards in the lives of the Pearson family. I know in order to move forward some of the storylines that new characters had to be introduced, and in true This is Us fashion, they kept us wondering, for almost the entire episode. It was an extended 1:07 minute episode and all the pieces didn’t start fitting together until about 50 minutes in. Facebook feeds were all over the place as everyone seemed confused. Quite frankly, too much work for the tv viewers brains. Shouldn’t have had to think that hard while watching a one hour tv show. Let’s see how these new plot lines play out as we move forward.

I haven’t started anything new as of yet. There are several dramas and a few comedies in the list. They will get my two shows test and I will keep you posted as I move through the every growing list of shows on my PVR.

What did you watch either new or returning and is there anything you recommend me to add to my never ending list? I would love to hear about them.

Gotta go put the tube on now…

Happy watching,

lisa

The most wonderful time of the year – Fall tv schedule

If you follow me you know that I love television. I would have been one of those people long before PVR and VCR that would have stayed home on a specific night not to miss my favourite show.

I was (am) very late to the Netflix game and other than Dead to Me, Grace and Frankie and The Crown haven’t really watched any other shows (I know, the horror). Binge watching is a WHOLE other blog post (maybe two) so I will leave my comments about that for now.

As you will see from below, I enjoy regular network programming. I did binge watch the highly anticipated return of Designated Survivor on Netflix and was conflicted. I am not a prude, but the writers and EPs took creative licence with the story lines, changed character’s personalities and pushed the envelope on the show because they could and then changed it for me. I am not saying I didn’t enjoy the 10 episodes, but it was a new show to me, which took getting used to. Which to me is a problem when you binge, the characters don’t really have a chance to marinate with you week after week as you follow their journey.

I will preface this list below as the shows that I watch. They may not be the shows that you watch. We all have a genre preference like or dislike. I have noticed that mine are related to medical, law and uniforms (Police, Fire, etc). I think I have a “type” or I am a “type”, if that makes sense.

I know I am sure that some are missing, but here we go:
